Therapy and testing for children, adolescents & young adults

Call 732.778.6360 or email kara@drkarazlotnick.com to talk with me or to schedule an initial consultation.

I work with children, adolescents, young adults, and families experiencing difficulties who want to make their lives happier. I help children and adolescents who are feeling sad, irritable, frustrated, angry, or anxious. I work with children, teenagers, and young adults who are having difficulty in school, in their relationships with others, or coping with a medical diagnosis. I work with families who need help communicating better, adjusting to life changes, or who are in need of support.

Through evaluation and psychotherapy, I can work with your family to help you identify and treat your child’s difficulties. Therapy can help your child learn the skills and tools necessary to overcome their problems and learn to live a happier and more successful life. In therapy, we will work as a team to use your child’s strengths and newly learned skills to empower them. I specialize in cognitive behavioral therapy, a mode of treatment that is evidenced based and empirically shown to successfully treat a large range of disorders. I individualize treatment and incorporate other treatment techniques to best help you and your child (e.g., play therapy, interpersonal therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, family systems, and psychodynamic techniques). I also work with children and adolescents to develop more effective social skills, coping skills, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Through testing, I can evaluate your child to help diagnosis a problem and make recommendations for treatment. I specialize in educational, psychological, and neuropsychological testing to assess for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, learning disorders including nonverbal learning disorder, executive functioning deficits, personality disorders, psychosis and/or reality testing, and to provide information for diagnostic purposes or complex cases. I make recommendations regarding treatment as well as school and standardized testing accommodations. I provide school consultation and can help your child’s school and teacher in the development and implementation of any IEPs or 504 plans that is necessary.

If your child is experiencing difficulty at home, in school, or with friends, and is in need of treatment, please call me to further talk about how I can help you. I have experience working with a broad range of disorders and problems seen in children, adolescents, and young adults including (but not limited to):

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • ADHD
  • Behavior Problems
  • Developmental Disorders
  • Learning Disorders
  • Sleep Problems
  • Life Changes or Stressors (e.g., Divorce, death, transitions, etc)
  • Children and Adolescents with Medical Diagnoses
